    PREFACE
    These essays date from 2002 to present. Almost all of them were published in Frontier, a left
    wing journal from Kolkata. I am a trained engineer and have been a political-social activist for
    more than fifty years. I have no academic training in ecology, linguistic or literature. I am a
    South Indian and I live in South India. So how come I am writing on these topics? And why am I
    writing on Hindi literature? This needs some explanation.
